State & US Representatives
Care about your neighborhood schools? Talk to your State and U.S. Lawmakers and make a difference.
The Oregon Legislature meets annually and makes decisions on bills that impact the state’s educational system and your neighborhood schools. For example, these bills impact curriculum, budget, and allocation of funds for our schools and programs.
A majority of funding for both MESD and our component school districts comes from the state of Oregon.
MESD also receives funding from the federal government for programs such as:
- Title I (Federal funding for schools/districts with a high percentage of low-income families)
- Special Education (Serving students with disabilities)
- English as a Second Language (Serving English language learners)
It is important for lawmakers to hear from our communities in order to make the best decisions for the students and families we serve. Talk to your representatives about:
- The importance of school funding
- Priorities in education
- Services that benefit you such as school nurses, speech language pathologists, counselors, career and technical education (CTE) etc.
