Inclement Weather

Lorem Ipsum Dolor

Knowing whether our schools and programs are open during inclement weather can be confusing. To help, we've compiled answers to the most common questions.

How does MESD communicate weather-related information?

We coordinate with our parter school district superintendents to ensure alignment on closures and late starts. Once a decision has been made, any alerts will be posted to the MESD website and to Flash Alert.

MESD staff assigned to component district sites or schools: please follow the district where you provide services and review Flash Alert for alerts in your assigned district. Please direct any questions to your principal or supervisor.

Will MESD Ainsworth remain open during inclement weather?

MESD Ainsworth will adjust its operating procedures depending on the severity of weather conditions.

How do I know if I have an Emergency Closure? How do I know if MESD is closed?

  • Ainsworth Building: The MESD superintendent will issue decisions about delayed openings, early closures, or full-day closures for the MESD Ainsworth building.
  • MESD School and Program Sites: MESD-operated schools and programs will follow delayed openings, early closures, or full-day closures that align with their respective school districts. Please check your local radio, television, or Flash Alert for closure information specific to your school district.

What happens if inclement weather occurs within work hours?

The agency will continue to monitor weather conditions throughout the day and, if deemed necessary, will follow early release processes to ensure staff and students return home safely.

What if I'm working remotely during severe weather?

If your school or program is closed, do not work remotely. Please check in with the direct supervisor. Human Resources recommends using the code for Emergency Closure (EC) purposes when logging in to your timecard.

What if I lose power or Internet access due to severe weather while working remotely?

MESD Technology Services (TS) recommends contacting your local service provider for Internet-related issues. In critical situations, TS can help troubleshoot over the phone. Please check in with your supervisor to let them know you are offline. Employees need to make accommodations with TS leadership in emergencies only by contacting support@cascadetech.org or 503-257-1579.

How will MESD employees be notified of closures or reduced work hours?

Please refer to the MESD website for notification banners regarding inclement weather. You can also refer to Flash Alert for the most up-to-date information on the day of severe weather starting at 5:30 a.m.
