Donald E. Long School: In an ongoing effort to build educational relationships with youth, the Donald E. Long School has modified its student conferencing process to better align with Oregon state standards for post-secondary educational planning. This includes four separate conferences with students, from instructional days one to 52.
Data shows the average stay for a youth at DEL is 14 days, but the range can be anywhere from one day to a year. This poses a challenge for fair and strategic educational planning. “Only a portion of the students were reached before, but now with this new system, all students are reached,” said DEL Vice Principal Lindsey Maehlum. Academic Highlights Linn County JDEP: The Linn County Juvenile Detention Education Program has partnered with teacher Jim Johnson, the GED certified proctor, to work with students to take GED tests while in the JDEP program. Two students are already pursuing the program. There was not a GED program offered through Linn County JDEP before this partnership.
