Attendance & Truancy Law

A truancy ordinance is now in effect in the the City of Portland requiring children between 6 and 18 years of age to be in school or show ID during school hours.

There are some exceptions including if you are exempt from going to school under Oregon Law. You would be in this category if you are being home schooled, attend private school or have obtained a GED.

The Multnomah Education Service District can provide your student with an ID card at your request for the current school year. There is no charge for this service.
