PreK-12 employees are invited to a panel with local health experts to discuss COVID-19 vaccinations. Tune in for this important conversation, co-hosted by the Multnomah County Health Department, Multnomah Education Service District and East County school districts.

CDC: V-safe — A new smartphone-based, after-vaccination health checker for people who receive COVID-19 vaccines. V-safe uses text messaging and web surveys from CDC to check in with vaccine recipients following COVID-19 vaccination. V-safe also provides second vaccine dose reminders if needed, and telephone follow up to anyone who reports medically significant (important) adverse events.

Panelists
Charlene McGee, the Program Manager for the Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) at Multnomah County. Charlene brings over 15 years of leadership working at the intersection of public health and healthcare systems to confront and change social determinants of health. As a Liberian-Oregonian, her experience as a survivor of the Liberian civil war and Black immigrant heavily influenced her career in health equity, health policy and program development. She works closely with community partners to elevate lived experience and community wisdom in order to advocate for systems and policy improvements, and culturally appropriate interventions to promote health.

Jessica Guernsey, the Public Health Director for Multnomah County. She joined Multnomah County Public Health 20 years ago. She worked on the strategic plan for the regional response to a potential influenza pandemic, with an emphasis on equity, which helped support the response to H1N1 in 2009. She has extensive experience with helping communities protect themselves during outbreaks. She leads the COVID-19 response in the county.

Dr. Jennifer Vines, a Multnomah County Health Officer and the lead health officer for the Tri-County region, also joins us. Dr. Vines is the medical lead for outbreak response. She has worked as a regional health officer in Oregon and Southwest Washington for more than a decade. She leads the COVID-19 response in the region.

Jamie Smith, the Coordinator of School Health Services at Multnomah Education Service District, is with us on the panel as well. He joined the district in 2019. Before joining MESD, Jamie Smith served as the statewide nurse consultant for Oregon Health Authority, supporting the practice of school nursing. He works with regional school districts and health systems on COVID-19 response.

Heather Godsey, the Nurse Consultant at MESD. She is the communicable disease liaison between MESD’s component districts and the Multnomah County Health Department. She works collaboratively with the health department’s communicable disease team to ensure consistency in communicable disease management and investigation within the school setting. Heather Godsey also serves on the Governor's Healthy Schools Reopening Council, which advises the Governor and the Oregon Department of Education on considerations for reopening Oregon schools in a safe way. She has worked closely with districts and health systems on COVID-19 response since the onset of the pandemic.
