Helensview Activities
In partnership with the Oregon State Marine Board (OSMB), Helensview was able to purchase a number of boats, PFD's, rescue, and safety equipment. Our goal is to safely get more children on the water in a variety of boats. While recreation and exploring the Portland waterways is one of our primary goals, we were also able to purchase some rescue pulleys and rope. The hope is to train students in basic rescue techniques and mechanical advantage. In addition, some of our staff will be participating in a 16-hour American Canoe Association (ACA), Community Paddlesport Leader (CPL) certification so they will be able to lead trips. None of this would have been possible without the OSMB grant. This grant process has opened up a variety of opportunities for both our staff and students.
