Lindsey Maehlum has been selected as Assistant Principal for Knott Creek and Four Creeks schools. She most recently served as Assistant Principal of the Juvenile Detention Education Program at Donald E Long. Ms. Maehlum brings over fourteen years of experience in education to the position along with a passion for closing the achievement gap and furthering student achievement. She began her teaching career in the Bronx as an English as a Second Language instructor and has since been a department coordinator, lead teacher, and Assistant Principal within the New York City Department of Education. Ms. Maehlum has also worked as an Adjunct Professor within the City University of New York (CUNY) network.
Ms. Maehlum earned a Bachelors of Art in Psychology and Norwegian from the University of Washington. Lindsey and her husband James are excited to be expecting baby #3, due in June. She begins the position July 1.

Dr. Dawn Joella-Jackson, principal of Helensview School, has been selected to also serve as principal of the JDEP program at Donald E. Long. She will continue to serve as principal of Helensview School. Dr. Joella-Jackson brings over 21 years of experience in education to the position. She previously worked for Portland Public Schools as a School Improvement Specialist at the Scott K-8 school. At Scott, she established working Professional Learning Communities, served as an Equity Team leader, and developed an effective school intervention team model.
Prior to her role at PPS, Dr. Joella-Jackson was the Program Chair for the Portland DART Schools for nine years. In that role, she was a site supervisor at Rosemont and started and led the PASO school for gang affected males ages 12-18, and implemented a bilingual and culturally appropriate curriculum. While at DART she piloted an arts integration program with a focus on literacy and developed and facilitated local and national trainings focused on increasing literacy skills for students who traditionally fail. She also taught at Milwaukie Middle School where, in addition to many other duties, she facilitated the Latino Support Group. Dr. Joella-Jackson will begin as principal of the JDEP program at DEL on July 1, 2019.
