![]() Sarah Phillips has been selected as the Instructional Services Coordinator in the Instruction Services Department. Ms. Phillips brings over 16 years in education to the position, most recently as the Manager for School Improvement and Educator Effectiveness at the Oregon Department of Education (ODE). As part of that role she led collaborative efforts to engage in discussions with union leadership, principals, and educators of all roles across Oregon districts about measuring effective practice; co-created the “District Professional Learning Teams” model of collaborative professional learning; and led the effort to engage in “Peer Review Panels” of existing evaluation systems. Prior to her role with ODE, she served as a high school French teacher with the Baltimore City Public Schools and was appointed by the school board as Teacher Representative for the board’s Joint Governing Panel. Before moving to Baltimore, she served for eight years as a middle school and high school French teacher in Chicago, Illinois, and Washington, DC, as well as working as a department chair and coach of a women’s junior varsity cross-country team. Ms. Phillips earned her Certificate of School Administration and Supervision from Johns Hopkins University, her Masters of Education in Foreign Language Education and French, and her Bachelor of Arts in French from Ohio State University. She holds teaching and administrative certifications in Ohio, the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Oregon. She holds a “highly qualified” certification in Ohio, Illinois, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. Ms. Phillips lives in Portland with her husband and 10-month old Pomeranian. She is an active member of Christ Church: Portland, which her husband started in Portland a year ago, as well as serving on the I Have A Dream Oregon: Young Leaders Board. She enjoys yoga, running, hiking, and cooking. She begins her position July 1st.
