Wheatley Abilities in Motion Classroom
Paul Webster
Abilities in Motion Teacher (503) 262-4032 pwebster@mesd.k12.or.us Paul Webster received his undergraduate training in Portland and began his education work in Arizona, volunteering with underserved student populations in the Navajo Nation. Teaching students with multiple disabilities soon became his focus, and, after earning his teaching certification in this specialty, he led a middle school classroom team, implementing assistive / inclusive technology, as well as including peer mentors, in the delivery of special education services. In the Abilities in Motion/AIM classroom at Wheatley, students benefit from learning activities within the Unique Learning System / ULS curriculum, using inclusive technology and other strategies matched to their learning styles. Wheelchair-compatible MESD vehicles give students access to destinations off campus, where community-based instruction in authentic settings serves as an invaluable scaffold, as students build skills for independence. |
