Rachel Jury
Principal rjury@mesd.k12.or.us (503) 262-4006 Rachel Jury has spent the past 14 years working with students with special needs. Her career started with the New York City Teaching Fellows where she spent 7 years as a Special Education teacher in New York City. She then made the decision in 2015 to move across the country to Portland, OR, where she spent her first 3 years as a Learning Specialist at Molalla River Middle School before deciding to become a school administrator. She has a passion for helping all students grow and learn, especially those faced with learning challenges, so when she was offered the assistant principal position with MESD at Wheatley School in 2018, she happily accepted. She has spent the past 4 years as an assistant principal helping to support the growth of staff and students and working to build a culture of inclusiveness and positivity at Wheatley. Now she looks forward to expanding on that work as she steps into the role of principal In her free time she likes to hang with her pup, Lupin, go for walks, visit the coast, and spend time with friends. On longer breaks she enjoys going back to the east coast to spend quality time with her family. She is an avid collector of plants, specifically philodendrons, and loves to fill her work and home spaces with them to create a calming environment. |
Magen Baker
Assistant Principal mbaker@mesd.k12.or.us (503) 262-4004 Magen Baker (she/her) has worked with youth and adults with complex communication and behavioral needs for 13 years. Originally from Vermont, she has a soft spot for the occasional Portland snow and slow winter months. Magen graduated from Husson University in Bangor, Maine with a BS in Kinesiology and received a MS in Special Education from Portland State University. Since moving to Portland in 2016, she has worked as a Behavior Support Facilitator and Behavior Consultant for Wheatley School and the FLS program here at MESD. Having a background in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has allowed Magen to bring a unique perspective to supporting learners in an educational setting. One of her greatest professional joys is collaborating with peers, team members and stakeholders to come up with creative and individualized supports for the learners she serves. As of spring 2023, Magen is thrilled to be taking on a new role of Assistant Principal at Wheatley School. In her free time, Magen enjoys traveling, playing with her dog and exploring all the wonderful things the Pacific Northwest has to offer! |
Jesse Ambriz
Administrative Assistant (503) 262-4000 jambriz@mesd.k12.or.us Hello! I’m Jesse (he/him/his) and I am thrilled to be starting off my second year here at Wheatley School as the Administrative Assistant. I first started at Wheatley during the 2022-2023 school year as an Educational Assistant, and quickly came to love the school environment. When the opportunity to move up to the Admin Assistant presented itself, I dove straight in. It would not have been possible without the immense amount of support from the rest of the administrative team, as well as all of the wonderful Behavior Support Facilitators that make this school work. I found my passion for working with special needs students while working as a Behavior Technician in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), but had always known I wanted to work in schools. School was always the most comfortable, safe space for me growing up, and I strive every day to bring that same type of environment to our students at Wheatley. In my free time, I like to play video games, listen to music, and hang out with my cats, Taylor and Logan. Having grown up in Southern California, I have a deep fondness for the PNW rain, and will take any chance I get to go spend some time outside in it. |
