Wheatley Principal's Page

My name is Erick Welsh and I am entering my fifth year as the principal here at Wheatley School. I have been in the education field for over 15 years and have concentrated on Special Education for over a decade. I have worked with students from kindergarten through age 21 during my journey. I have a background serving special education students, as well as being a father to children who benefit from similar services.
After high school, I served for 5 years in the Navy as a hospital corpsman with the Marine Corps. I have a degree in Teledramatic Arts and Technology with an emphasis in sports broadcasting from Cal State Monterey Bay and did my graduate studies at Cal State Monterey Bay and Brandman University, culminating in a Master’s in Education, Curriculum and Instruction.
I began teaching post-senior education in the Silicon Valley before relocating to the Portland area. I managed a middle school behavior program in Canby where I also had the opportunity to work as a 1:1 paraprofessional with Mark 2 Ministries in Canby and Newberg.
During my time in Canby, I attended Portland State University where I earned my administrative license.
I am blissfully married and the proud father to a 16 year-old son and 11 year-old boy/girl twins. I enjoy all things sports and I am a life-long learner, enrolled in the Doctoral program at Concordia University, Chicago. It is my honor to serve our students, staff, families, and community.
